In terms of vapor quality, usability, and design, these are the best wax pens around. We love them. And we know you'll love them too.

Best Dab Pens of 2018

KandyPens Prism - $97.99

Features:

  • Sub-Ohm Battery
  • Compact Design
  • Ceramic Coilless Atomizer
  • Dual Quartz Atomizer
  • Stainless Steel
  • 4 Preset Temperatures
  • Micro-USB/Lightning Charging
  • Pass-Through Functionality

KandyPens Prism is very compact. But it's also quite powerful. A sub-ohm battery creates rig-like hits. It comes with two premium atomizers--a ceramic coilless and dual quartz. Both create great flavor. The ceramic is more efficient with wax, while the dual quartz rod creates bigger clouds. Vape pens don't usually feature pass-through functionality, but the Prism can be used while charging. It can also be charged via Micro-USB or lightning, which is hard to find in a dab pen. The design is sleek and solid with a stainless steel build that's both durable and lightweight. If you want something a little larger and more powerful, there's the KandyPrism Plus, also featured on our list of the best concentrate pens this year.

Dr. Dabber AHOL - $109.95

Features:

  • Artwork by AHOL
  • Quartz Rod Atomizer
  • Double Ceramic Rod Atomizer
  • Ceramic Halo Atomizer
  • Snap-On Magnet Attachment
  • 3 Voltages
  • Ceramic Mouthpiece

Dr. Dabber AHOL is an upgraded version of their Aurora wax pen that was designed partly by artist AHOL. The artwork is trippy with a repeating eye pattern in bright turquoise. There's also a stash container disguised as a spray can that was designed by the artist himself. Other than that, the Aurora AHOL is exactly the same as the latest Aurora vape pen, offering low temp dabs on-the-go. The atomizers are made specifically for smooth, flavor-rich hits. The dual ceramic rod will make slightly larger, thicker clouds, while the ceramic halo vaporizes all your concentrates more efficiently. The quartz rod is great for flavor, dabbing your wax without adding unwanted flavors. Overall the Dr Dabber Aurora AHOL is a collector's item that also happens to be one of the best wax pens on the table today, although you can snag the original Aurora for a bit less and still enjoy the same performance.

R2 Rig  - $129.99

 Features:

  • Thicker Titanium Coils
  • Ceramic Rod
  • Variable Airflow
  • Remembers Last Temperature
  • Integrated Wax Jar

A large and in charge version of the R2 Series by ThisThingRips, the Rig Edition really does rip with a big and bad ceramic rod atomizer and powerful battery. A cross between an enail and wax pen, the Rig delivers big, rig-like rips. But it's also pretty portable. Very convenient if you want more potency than a wax pen without losing the power to keep the device in your pocket. Adding on to that portability, the Rig has a built-in wax container. It's non-stick and pretty stealthy. If you want quick hits, the Rig will remember your last temperature so you don't have to toggle temp every session. This is without a doubt the best concentrate pen for dabbers who need a travel-friendly companion.

 KandyPens Amber Rose - $148.00

Features:

  • Original Design by Amber Rose
  • Glittery Exterior w/Gold Lining
  • Coilless Atomizer with Quartz Chamber
  • Dual Quartz Coil with Quartz Chamber
  • .5 ML Glass Eliquid Tank
  • Leak-Proof Design
  • 510-Threading
  • Lifetime Warranty on Battery
  • Handmade
  • Custom Hard Shell Case

KandyPens teamed up with Amber Rose on this bold and beautiful concentrate pen. Sleek and sexy, the Amber Rose vape pen comes in a custom hardshell case with premium atomizers, an eliquid tank, and cleaning tools--everything you need in one pocket-friendly kit. The vapor production is amazing--smooth and full of flavor. That's thanks to the atomizers, which KandyPens upgraded for this limited-edition vape pen. You get a coilless atomizer that vaporizes every bit of concentrate so each hit is more potent and nothing goes to waste. Plus there's a dual quartz rod atomizer that creates big clouds but keeps it smooth and tasty. Both atomizers feature quartz crystal chambers that heat concentrates slow and low without adding smokiness or harshness. The mouthpiece is low draw resistance with a carb hole. Each hit is milky, full-bodied, and mouthwatering. As an added perk, Sesh Mode keeps the coil hot for 10 seconds so you can keep taking hits or pass it on to a friend without reheating.

Source Orb 4 Premium - $99.95

Features:

  • 6 Premium Atomizers
  • Adjustable Airflow
  • Magnetic Attachment
  • Stainless Steel 303 Design
  • Compatible with Orb 3 and Source Nail Atomizers
  • Lifetime Warranty

For wax vaporization, it doesn’t get much better than the Source Orb 4 Premium Kit. The Source Orb 4 concentrate pen comes with 6 atomizers, including a black ceramic double coil, Terra 2 ceramic coilless, and a quartz double rod atomizer, and generates lung-busting rips with 650mAh sub-ohm variable voltage power. Source Orb 4 is a wax enthusiast’s dab pen, delivering rips for every mood or preference with an arsenal of atomizers and temperature control.

AirVape OM - $69.99

Features:

  • Dual Quartz Rods
  • Compatible with Standard Oil Cartridges
  • Magnetic Attachments
  • Keychain

AirVape OM is one of the most compact concentrate pens out there. The vapor production is surprisingly not half bad. The quartz rod atomizer pulls great flavor from concentrates and keeps vapor fairly smooth. There's a glass mouthpiece, which is pretty rare for a tiny wax pen like this. It keeps hits purer and also feels comfortable when hitting. This is a super stealthy device, fitting easily in your pocket. It's also quite stealthy. It looks more like a keychain ornament than a vaporizer. That way you can carry it around pretty much anywhere without blowing your cover. Apollo AirVape is a reliable company. Their AirVape X is one of the best herb vaporizers out lately. They've brought that same quality to the AirVape OM, which is why it makes our list of the best dab pens of 2018.

KandyPens RUBI - $49.95

Features:

  • Refillable Pod
  • Ceramic Coil
  • Pocket-Sized
  • Breath-Activated
  • Leak Proof
  • Handmade
  • Lifetime Warranty

We figured we'd better include an option for liquid concentrates. KandyPens RUBI is up there with the best dab pens on account of its refillable pod (most vapes use pre-filled cartridges). You can enjoy any liquid you want. The silky smooth hits and super compact design are also nice. At just 4 inches long this is one of the tiniest vapes around, but the vapor production is fairly thick and flavorful. That's thanks to the ceramic coil with Japanese cotton. The ceramic heats oils without causing combustion. All you get is flavor and effects. Just take a hit and the heating system instantly produces clouds. No buttons, which is great for on-the-go vaping. RUBI has only one temperature, but it's optimal for oil concentrates. A great choice for connoisseurs who vape all types of liquids on their feet.

Honey Stick Elf - $29.99

Features:

  • Extremely Small
  • 3.7 Volt Battery
  • Breath-Activated
  • Visible Oil Level
  • Hidden Cartridge
  • Durable Metal
  • Matte Exterior

Honey Stick Elf is another option that's not quite a dab pen but good for those who prefer oil concentrates. Featuring a snap-on magnet connection, you can pop in whatever standard oil cartridge you want. Just inhale and the Elf instantly creates milky vapor. No buttons, which makes the experience more seamless and on-the-go. This little guy is only 3" tall but the hits are delicious with a nice head change. The tiny size allows you to carry it anywhere with no trouble. It has a minimalist look that's pretty cute in the pastel colors but more badass in black or white. Overall the Elf is one of the best dab pens for oil, maximizing portable and ease-of-use.

Source Slim 4 Travel Kit  - $89.95

 Features:

  • Premium Quartz Atomizers
  • Deep Dish
  • Stainless Steel 303 Design
  • Variable Airflow
  • Grade 1 Titanium Coils

Not only is its design solid, it's premium atomizers are powerful, precision-engineered to extract higher levels of flavor and effects from wax. Included in the kit is a coilless quartz atomizer for efficient vaporization and a double quartz rod for larger clouds. Both atomizers make vapor taste amazing. To give you more control over your clouds, Source built in an adjustable airflow ring so you can toggle density, cloud size, flavor and more. Source Orb XL V2  - $99.95

  • Precision Temperature
  • 200F to 700F
  • Ceramic Coilless Atomizer
  • Quartz Coilless Atomizer
  • Removable Buckets
  • Variable Airflow
  • 100% Grade 1 Titanium Coils
  • Compatible with Over 20 Source Atomizers
  • Lifetime Warranty

You don't usually get this level of quality in a dab pen. But Source Orb XL V2 has it all. Rather than presets, you get precision temperature. And the range goes up to a whopping 700F for huge dabs. The atomizers are made with high-grade materials and feature removable buckets for easy cleaning and replacement. The vapor quality is exceptional. The usability is masterful. And the design is beautiful with an orb-like stainless steel attachment. The best part? Source Orb XL V2 is compatible with 20+ atomizers from Source, and they make really good atomizers. This is probably the best dab pen on the list.

AirVape OM Mini - $29.99

 Features:

  • Keychain
  • Compact Size
  • Variable Voltage (2.4-4.0v)
  • 5 Second Heating
  • Works with Standard Oil Cartridges
  • USB Charging

AirVape OM Mini is the little brother of AirVape OM. It's more compact, making it better for on-the-go vaping. And just like it's bigger brother, it's compatible with most standard 510 oil cartridges. It doesn't, however, have the quartz rod atomizer, so if you're into wax, not just oil, go with the OM not the OM Mini. This is a handy little dab pen. Just click the button where the keychain is to toggle through different voltages. The vapor is enjoyable. Not the best around, but definitely good for a little vape. The fact that you can use just about any oil cartridge places many possibilities at your fingertips.

KandyPens Prism Plus - $127.99

Features:

  • 2 Glass Mouthpieces
  • Dual Quartz Atomizer
  • Ceramic Coilless Atomizer
  • Stainless Steel
  • USB Charging
  • 900mAh Sub-Ohm Battery

Prism Plus is a larger, more powerful version of the KandyPens Prism, which you may have noticed higher up the list. Now you get 900mAh of power, giving you longer continuous use before you need to charge up. Besides the size and battery, the Prism and Prism+ are quite alike, featuring four preset temperatures geared toward wax concentrates. They are 320F, 350F, 390F, and 430F. Each hit is fairly tasty and potent, delivered through one of 2 included glass mouthpieces. Even though the Prism Plus is larger than its little brother, it's still quite compact, making it easy to carry around with you. If you're looking for a dab pen that's both portable and powerful, look no further.

Vivant Dabox - $59.99

Features:

  • Easy Flip Door
  • Rapid Heat Up
  • Thick Coils
  • 40 Watt Strength
  • 2 Amp Rapid Charge
  • Pocket-Friendly
  • Glass Chamber
  • Dual Quartz Atomizer
  • Dual Quartz Clapton Coil
  • 5 Second Heating

So you want to dab, but not with a torch. Vivant Dabox is a great option, churning up big clouds with 40 watts of power and two atomizers--a dual quartz and dual quartz Clapton coil. A pop-out door opens to reveal the atomizer. This allows for easy loading and replacement of the coils. Extra thick coils produce large and in charge vapor with a dense, intoxicating character. Operating Dabox is simple. A single button controls everything. 5 clicks turns it on while holding the button creates rips in just 5 seconds. One thing we love about this dab pen is the built-in glass chamber. It allows vapor to float around and cool off a little before inhalation. It also preserves the best flavor since the glass is absolutely inert. Another extraordinary feature is the 2A Quick Charge System, which allows you to fully charge the battery in only one hour. This is one of the best wax pens for portable dabbing.

Source 10Cig Vaporizer - $9.95

 Features:

  • Pencil sized
  • Stainless Steel
  • 3 Temperatures
  • Quartz Atomizer
  • Ceramic Atomizer
  • USB Charging
  • Stylus Tip

Source 10Cig is a high-end rip-n-ditch dab pen. It's made of high-quality stainless steel with a slick gunmetal look that feels very solid. The included atomizers are miniature versions of SOURCE's usual coils. They're well-made and extract intense flavor, although the clouds are a bit small. It's quite surprising that this dab pen only costs around $10. You get three temperatures that are in the optimal range for wax concentrates. The lower setting makes small, flavor-rich sips. The higher creates larger clouds. It seems like Source 10Cig should be more expensive given the quality of its design and vapor production. It's the best dab pen for someone on a budget.

Yocan Hive - $34.99

Features:

  • Pocket-Sized
  • Works with Wax and Oil
  • Quartz Rod Atomizer
  • 1.8 Ohm Oil Atomizer
  • Battery Level Indicator
  • 650mAh Battery
  • 12W/4.2v Power

Affordable and dynamic, Yocan Hive lets you seamlessly switch between wax or oil and does a great job of turning your chosen material into delicious vapor. That's thanks to the premium atomizers and some significant battery power. The Hive is powerful for a small dab pen, harnessing 4.2v strength inside a device that's only 70mm high. That strength is focused on a quartz rod atomizer made of 100% pure crystal that pulls high levels of flavor from concentrates, as well as a 1.8ohm top fill oil cartridge made of high-grade metal and glass. This is one of the best dab pens on a budget, especially if you want to freely switch between oil and wax.

Pulsar APX Wax - $69.99

Features:

  • 100% Quartz Chamber
  • Triple Quartz Rods
  • Pocket-Friendly
  • 1100mAh Lithium Ion Battery

The Pulsar APX W is not exactly a dab pen, more of a portable vaporizer for vaping wax, but we had to include it in our list of the best dab pens by virtue of its vapor production alone. The Pulsar APX Wax features an impressive pure quartz atomizer with triple quartz rods. The clouds are sizable and the inert nature of all that quartz preserves the essential flavors of the wax. A temperature controlled 1100mAh lithium-ion battery lets you choose the ideal temperature, and super compact build won’t burden your pocket. Pulsar APX W is just as a compact as a dab pen, and delivers excellent vapor production on a par with even higher end wax pens.

Yocan Pandon - $59.99

Features:

  • Quad Coil
  • Quartz Rods
  • Dual Atomizers
  • 1300mAh Battery
  • 10 Second Auto-Shutoff

The Yocan Pandon may be the only dab pen to feature dual chambers, each with dual quartz rods, that can be used separately or together. This gives users the dab rig experience of dabbing wax with four quartz rods, or standard dual rod vaporization. And switching between both modes is very simple. Considering how muscular this dab pen is in the atomizer department, the Pandon vape is surprisingly compact at just under 6 inches. The Yocan Pandon features an above average 1300mAh battery that really rips. With the Yocan Pandon, dab enthusiasts will enjoy having dab-like rips from a unit that fits in the palm of your hand.

R2 Series GEN3 - $39.99

 Features:

  • Ceramic Dual Ti Coil
  • 12 Hour Battery Life
  • 5 Second Heat Up
  • Pocket-Friendly
  • New Mouthpiece is Stealthier
  • Silicone Base Station

R2 Series GEN3 is a more affordable option but offers a few desirable upgrades from the original R2 Series. The battery is now smart, remembering your last temp, and lasts around 12 hours depending on the length of your hits. A ceramic dual Ti titanium coil generates sizable rips of tasty vapor in just 5 seconds. And the design is sleeker and more discreet with an upgraded mouthpiece in place of the original see-through chamber that shows the clouds as they travel through the vapor path. ThisThingRips includes a silicone base station for storing all your parts as well as your wax concentrates. One of the best wax pens under $50, the R2 Series GEN3 is a handy companion for enjoying decent rips on-the-go.

Source 10Cig Pro - $24.95

 Features:

  • High-Grade T1 Titanium Atomizers
  • 3 Preset Temps
  • Easy-to-Use
  • Super Compact

The Pro version of Source 10Cig offers the same portability and high-quality design but with better atomizers. Now you get a black ceramic single coil and a quartz rod atomizer. The black ceramic is more porous than the usual ceramic. Wax melts into the pore, so the vaporization is more thorough. The flavor is quite intense. The quartz single rod atomizer creates slightly larger clouds with great flavor. Source 10Cig is a little more expensive than the original 10Cig, but you get what you pay for in the upgrade atomizers. If you're a connoisseur on a budget, this is one of the best dab pens under $25.

Honey Dabber 2 - $35.99

Features:

  • Concentrate Straw
  • Cherry Wood Sleeve
  • Portable Dabbing
  • Quartz and Titanium Straws

Honey Dabber 2 boils dabbing down to the basics. Just heat the straw with a torch, dip it in a glass jar of wax concentrates, and take a hit from the opposite end. A cherry wood sleeve slides over the straw after use, keeping it from burning things. That way you can carry the Honey Dabber in your pocket right after a session. Pretty convenient. This folksy little tool doesn't have the smoothest vapor production, but it's perfect for on-the-go dabbing and very easy to figure out. All the materials are high quality, which you can feel. The quartz delivers fairly strong flavor and effects. The outdoorsy type will definitely like this one.

Honey Stick Bee Keeper - $29.99

Features:

  • Compatible with Standard Cartridges (Up to 10mm)
  • Super Compact
  • Easy Controls
  • 5-Click Locking Mechanism

If you are a beginner vaper or you’re on a budget, it might be best to opt for a cheap dab pen that uses pre-filled oil tanks. This year, the best dab pen for oil tanks is the Honey Stick Bee Keeper. Its ample 20-watt battery gives you better vapor production than the standard affordable dab pen. The vapor production is comparable to pricier units. And the Honey Stick is especially stealthy thanks to its unique design, which sits the tank in a port next to the battery, rather than above the battery in a pen style. The Honey Stick Bee Keeper dab pen hides easily in your palm, making for an exceptionally discreet vaping experience.

Other Dab Pen Tips

  • When it comes to dab pens, you generally get what you pay for. Investing more in a pricier dab pen usually results in a better vaping experience. That said, the affordable dab pens listed above defy the expectations of their price ranges.

  • Bear in mind, dab pens are for waxy or oil concentrates only. If you prefer dry herb, consider a portable dry herb vaporizer.

  • If you like bigger clouds, buy a dab pen with more coils.

  • If you prefer smaller, flavor-rich hits, buy a dab pen with a single coil, preferably quartz rod.

  • If you want to be able to change vapor profiles, a dab pen with multiple atomizers like the Source Orb 4 will do.
