Here is our list of the best desktop vaporizers of 2018. If you don’t have a tabletop vape at home, these powerful plug-in devices deliver exceptionally pure, potent vapor. For on-the-go options, see our Best Portable Dry Herb Vaporizers of 2018.
Vapolution 3 Vaporizer - $199.99
One of the only 100% glass vapor paths.
- Multiple Inhalation Methods
- Works with Unground Herb
- Glass Heater Liner
- All-Glass Vapor Path
- Precision Temperature
- Microprocessor for Temperature Control
- Digital Control Screen
Manufactured in sunny California, Vapolution 3 is one of the only vaporizers with a glass air path that is really 100% glass, making it one of the best desktop vaporizers for pure flavor.
This unit also works with unground herb--another rare feature. That's a nice touch in case you don't have a grinder on you.
The heating system goes up to 450F, but because the vapor path is all-glass, the temperature on the display isn't necessarily the temperature at which your herb is being vaped. It could be much hotter as the glass heats.
We recommend setting the heat to around 380F to 400F for the best vapor. Give it about 5 seconds then take a hit. If you leave the glass stem in for longer than 30 seconds you could overheat your herb.
Expect really potent rips. The glass thoroughly extracts all the compounds from terpenes to THC. You're going to taste a lot more than what you're used to. And you're going to experience impressive effects.
(Vapolution features one of the few all-glass vapor paths on the market.)
The design is sleek and compact. You can pick it up as you take a hit, which makes it convenient for sharing.
You may notice a faint sound when you turn the unit one. This comes from the AC power adapter and the unit itself. You're not going to pick up on this unless the room is completely silent.
The controls are simple. There are three buttons and a digital display. The buttons are the most pleasant to push (like with the Vapir Rise), but that's not the end of the world.
You can take hits from the included glass stem (which makes up the 100% all-glass vapor path) or via whip tubing.
This is the best desktop vaporizer at the middle price range. The vapor production is approaching the greatness of Volcano and Herbalizer. The build quality, too.
Dr Dabber Switch - $399.99
- Herb and Wax Compatible
- Ceramic Induction Cups
- 150 Uses per Full Charge
- 25 Heat Settings
- One Hour Hcarging
- 4 Second Heating
- Borosilicate Glass Bubbler
Dr Dabber Switch is a mean machine. It's basically an enail and a desktop herb vaporizer in a single device. Compatible with wax and oil, this all-in-one powerhouse delivers incredible vapor in seconds. With 25 heat settings, you can pick the temperature that's ideal for your vaping style. Within 4 seconds, you're experiencing sharp, complex flavor notes, head-changing potency, and dense, comfortable inhales. Switch it up between herb and wax seamlessly. Switch can handle both just as well as the other.
Whether you want to dab or vape herb, Dr Dabber Switch generates extremely smooth, potent hits with a borosilicate glass bubbler. As your hit passes through the water filtration system, it's purified of particles, cooled down, and moisturized so you can take a nice long hit with no harshness. Dr Dabber uses a very solid, finely crafted borosilicate with a clean and clear look and comfortable feel. It's very heat resistant, so it doesn't get hot nor does it rub off on the flavor of your vapor.
The heating chamber is quite interesting. Ceramic induction cups extract amazing flavor from wax and herb. You get two induction cups, a white and black ceramic. The black ceramic has more pores so the wax melts into the ceramic, which generates more flavor and potency. All in all the Dr Dabber Switch is the best desktop vaporizer for enjoying wax and herb.
Vapir Rise - $249.99
Rises to the occasion with multi-user functionality for up to four friends.
- Multi-User Adapter
- Dual Function – Balloon Bag or Whip Tube
- Multiple Fan Settings Including No-Fan Mode
- Touch Pad Controls
- Precision Temperature (Up to 420F)
- Fast Heating
Most of the best desktop vaporizers allow for one user at a time. Vapir Rise lets up to four people vape all at once, which says something about the thought that went into its design.
The Rise was crafted for convenience, offering a complete vaping experience that encompasses many styles, temperatures, and users. It’s one of the better options for an affordable tabletop unit.
While units like the Plenty offer better vapor quality, the Vapir Rise has more customizability.
The versatility here is impressive. You can use the Rise with both herb or essential oils, choose between forced or non-fan functionality, switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit, or balloon and whip consumption.
You can adjust fan speed for lower or higher draw resistance. And you have precision temperature. That’s quite a lot of options for a desktop vaporizer under $300.
(Up to four people can take a hit at the same time.)
There have been a few upgrades since the last version. Previously anytime the heater was on the fan would be on. But with the 2.0 version, you can turn the fan off and take hits without forced air if you prefer higher draw resistance.
Vapir Rise is easy to use. The touch pad controls feel great to push, a little like playing Xbox. You can toggle to a precise temperature, after which the unit will rise to the occasion in under a minute. The vapor quality is a little above average—not bad for its price range.
If you want the kind of functionality you’d expect from a higher end desktop vaporizer, but at a lower price with a slight decrease in vapor quality, this is a great option.
What you get is a more affordable alternative to the Volcano vaporizer. Not the best desktop vape in the universe, but certainly one of the greatest in the world of affordable tabletop units.
Volcano Classic - $479.00
Still the best.
- Precision Temperature (266F–446F)
- Rotary Dial for Controlling Temperature
- Balloon Bag System w/Included Easy Valve Starter Kit
- High Quality Engineering
- 3 Year Warranty
- Extremely High Vapor Quality
Volcano by Storz & Bickel has remained relevant for decades by doing the essential well. The product of German engineering, Volcano Classic has arguably the best build quality in the industry.
Volcano can go years without repair (and stands protected by a 3-year warranty). That lasting power makes it one of the best desktop vaporizers--definitely worth the investment.
But what really makes the Volcano one of the best desktop vaporizers is its powerful vapor production. An analog dial knob lets you tune into a precise temperature between 266F and 446F.
Once you choose a temperature, the Volcano heats in 180 seconds. A food-safe heating element, partly made of ceramic, produces high fidelity vapor.
The Volcano uses balloon bags, which allow you to literally carry vapor with you, untethered to the device. Storz & Bickel’s easy-valve starter kit enables you to plug the balloon’s valve into the heating chamber of the Volcano for easy filling.
One bowl gets you about 3 to 4 bags. And each bag holds loads of vapor.
An advanced diaphragm pump fills balloon bags fast. Most desktop vaporizers use whip tubing, which doesn’t allow you to vape away from the device. Balloon bags add a level of portability.
Volcano delivers some of the best vapor quality out there. Lab studies have found that 95% of the vapor created consists of cannabinoids. Compare that to smoke, 88% of which is made up of harmful toxins. It’s a night and day comparison, which is why Volcano has loomed large as one of the best desktop vaporizers since its release almost two decades ago.
The Volcano Classic has an old school feel with analog controls. If you're looking for something a tad more modern, check out the newer version, Volcano Digital.
Volcano Digital - $599.00
A modern take on the classic Volcano desktop vaporizer.
- LED Temperature Display
- Precision Temperature (104F–446F)
- Extremely Pure Vapor
- 3 Year Warranty
- German Engineering
- Balloon Bag System w/Included Easy Valve Starter Kit
- Food-Safe Aluminum Heating Block
- Automatic Shut Off Feature
Volcano Digital is much like the Classic version but with an LED display screen and control buttons that light up. It shows the chosen temperature as well as the current temperature, so you know when the device has finished heating up.
The Digital also features a larger temperature range, starting off at 104F instead of 266F so you can explore lower temperatures with more flavor and smoothness.
Like many of the best desktop vaporizers, the Volcano Digital features precision temperature. You can toggle temperature using the “+” and “-” buttons. This is a little easier than the analog dial knob of the classic Volcano.
Precision temperature allows you to zero in on the best heating style, which gives you plenty of room for exploration. You can choose the temperature that’s best for your favorite clouds, cannabinoids, and more.
(Choose any temperature between 104F and 446F with a bright and clear LED screen.)
Both the Digital and Classic Volcano are identical on the inside. They feature the same heating elements and vapor quality. The valve systems are also the same, utilizing a balloon bag system that allows you to carry vapor around.
So what’s the big difference?
The main distinction between the Digital and Classic is ease of use. The Digital wins thanks to its LED screen, temperature control buttons, and larger temperature range. For those reasons, it’s a little more expensive.
If you have money to spend, it’s worth it to splurge on the Digital, one of the best desktop vaporizers of the past two decades. But if you’re on a budget, the Classic has the same level of vapor quality, it’s just a little less easy to use.
Herbalizer - $599.99
The Rolls-Royce of vaporizers. Designed by NASA engineers.
- Halogen Bulb Heating Element
- Extremely High Vapor Quality
- Precision Temperature (290F-445F)
- Temperature Memory
- Fail-Safe Mechanisms
- Rapid Heating
- Futuristic Design
- Aromatherapy Mode
- Integrated Whip Tubing
- Mezzanine Storage
- Touch Screen Control
Herbalizer is probably the best desktop vaporizer, period. There are levels to this curiously egg-shaped device. The heating system is practically scientific with a microprocessor for temperature memory and fail-safe mechanisms dreamed up by former NASA brainiacs. The user experience is seamless. And the vapor production is top notch.
If you ever wondered exactly how your favorite strains are supposed to taste, and how potent it can be, just take a hit from this thing on Vaportherapy mode. Medicinal users will love how silky smooth the draws are. True cannasseurs will appreciate the fidelity of its vapor. There’s plenty to explore, and much to be thankful for.
Controlling this device is easy. The unit turns on when you lift the lid. The control interface allows you to control fan speed, temperature, and switch from Aromatherapy and Vaportherapy modes.
(Explore different modes, fan speeds, and precise temperatures.)
With Aromatherapy mode, you choose your session length and fan speed. You dab some essential oil on a brillo pad, load it into the herb chamber, and the device will diffuse vapor into the air, filling your room.
With Vaportherapy mode, you choose your temperature in single-degree increments (290F to 445F). You fill the herb chamber with your ideal strain, ground up finely.
The design is orderly and intuitive. You can lift the interface up to reveal mezzanine storage for all your accessories. The whip tubing is stored in a circular trench that surrounds the interface, sitting like a coiled snake in-between sessions.
(Herbalizer boasts a surgical-grade silicone whip tube.)
Most of the best desktop vaporizers have one or two ways to rip. Herbalizer has three. Whip, balloon bag, or steamroller pipe (sold separately). The manufacturer chose medical-grade materials, so the vapor is safe and the flavor is true.
The balloon bags hold around 2 liters of vapor. The forced air fan fills them in 15 to 90 seconds depending on your fan speed. They’re made of medical grade silicone, so you’re not breathing in nasty plastic tastes. A squeeze valve enables easy attachment. Taking hits is also a breeze. Just squeeze the valve and take a rip. It will close right away when released, conserving your vapor.
The 3 foot whip, also made of medical-grade silicone, enables you to inhale with the help of the forced air fan. You can get fuller hits with less inhalation. The whip gives vapor plenty of time to cool off as it travels down the air path, so the draws are very comfortable.
(Enjoy extra flavor and smoothness with the Herbalizer steamroller.)
The steamroller is made of high grade, hand-blown borosilicate glass. It’s a 9 inch straight pipe with a carb hole. It cools and diffuses hits for more comfort.
The easiest option is the whip. The balloon bags allow for portability. And the steamroller delivers super tasty rips for the flavor chasers.
Under the hood you’re looking at a microprocessor that constantly and instantly corrects temperature. Also built-in is a fail-safe mechanism that shuts the heating system down if the unit is tipped. The microprocessor will remember the last temperature before the shutdown. The heating element is a halogen bulb that heats lightning fast. You can vape in a speedy 4 seconds.
If you're looking for the best desktop vaporizer in terms of vapor production, usability, build quality, and more, it comes down to the Herbalizer and its closest competitor, the Volcano.
Plenty Vaporizer - $249.00
Plenty to love from this palm-friendly powerhouse.
- Precision Temperature
- Palm-Ready Design
- 100% True Convection System
- Extra Wide Herb Chamber
- Potent Vapor
- Low Draw Resistance
The Plenty is made by Storz & Bickel, who brought us the Volcano, arguably the best desktop vaporizer. What we have here is a magic trick. S&B packed the powerful heating of their legendary tabletop unit into a more compact, relatively portable design.
With the Plenty, there's more freedom of movement. Though it is plugged into a wall outlet, you can lift it off the table and move it around.
Despite it's more compact size, you still get the excellent vapor production that Storz & Bickel are known for. There’s the precision temperature and convection heating you usually get from a tabletop unit, except you’re not glued to the tabletop.
The first thing you’re going to notice is the cooling coil. It’s a flexible, corrugated pipe made of stainless steel. You can bend the coil in whatever direction to take a hit.
The main function of the coil is extending the vapor path a great deal, letting vapor cool off before you inhale. Each rip is super smooth. The coil also has little to no draw resistance. As a result, the Plenty has a very free-flowing hit.
(Load the extra large chamber with any amount of herb for the same excellent vapor quality.)
Plenty has a huge herb chamber. There’s plenty of surface area for producing high fidelity vapor. Expect very potent, very pure hits. Unlike other vapes, you don’t need to fill it completely to get smooth, tasty draws.
The heating system is mostly convection, so hot air will flow in, vaporizing all your herb no matter how little you pack. The vapor quality is excellent, on a par with higher end vaporizers.
All the parts are simple to detach, making it easy to clean or replace them. The parts include the filling chamber and all its components. Simply dip a cleaning brush in some isopropyl alcohol and scrub them down after each session. For deeper cleans, soak the part in iso for ten minutes before scrubbing.
The Plenty is one of the best desktop vaporizers for those who want a more affordable, more palm-ready option that still kicks ass in the vapor production department.
Life Saber - $199.99
The Force is strong in one of the only handheld vapes with an all-glass vapor path.
- All-glass Airpath
- Glass Draw Stem
- Temperature Dial
- Water Pipe Compatibility
- Travel Bag
- Marble Pick
- Anodized Aluminum
- Looks like a Lightsaber
The Life Saber is another handheld desktop vaporizer, like the Plenty, that has the power of a plug-in device with a bit of portability. You can lift the Life Saber up off the table, which comes in handy. Unlike the usual tabletop vape, you can pass this one around.
As you guessed, the Life Saber’s name comes from its Star Wars-inspired design. It looks like a lightsaber, but instead of a laser sword, there’s a long, skinny glass wand that delivers intensely flavorful rips.
One downside is that the glass vapor path delivers great vapor, but it’s a little fragile. The unit is also very long at 19” when all put together, which can be awkward to maneuver. But once you get the hang of it, the Life Saber is fun to use and delivers smooth, clean-tasting rips.
Operation is fairly easy. You load herb into the bottom of the wand and connect it to the chamber. You can toggle temperature by turning the dial on the metal frame. There are no numbers on the dial. So there’s a bit of a learning curve before you figure out which degree on the dial is perfect for you.
(A long glass draw stem delivers flavor for days.)
This device comes from 7th Floor, makers of some of the best desktop vaporizers. They often feature all-glass vapor paths, as you see in the Life Saber. The glass is high grade borosilicate, a very temperature resistant material that displays flavor nicely.
7th Floor puts a lot of creativity into their designs. That really shows here. The Life Saber is fun to use, and the vapor quality is quite nice thanks to the all-glass vapor path.
A minor drawback is the fact that you have to stir the chamber during your sessions to get the best vapor. To do that, you have to spin the device upside down and remove the wand. Not the biggest deal, but those who prioritize ease of use should opt for something like the Plenty by Storz and Bickel, another device that’s handheld but still technically a desktop vaporizer since it plugs in.
The Life Saber bridges the gap between portable and desktop to offer an affordable, easy to handle, and powerful option that produces big, potent draws.
If you want something more stationary that still has the signature all-glass airpath, opt for other 7th Floor vapes like the Silver Surfer.
Arizer Extreme Q - $169.99
The best desktop vaporizer under $200.
- Precision Temperature
- Triple Heat Sensors
- LCD Screen
- Ceramic Heating Element
- Multiple Fan Speeds
- Remote Control
- Balloon Bag or Whip Tube Function
The Canadian-made Arizer Extreme Q embraces the desktop vaporizer’s role as a home device with the first ever remote control heating system.
You can chill out on the couch, choose a temp and wait until the unit is ready before sitting down and getting started. You can set up your vaping sessions from anywhere around the house. The whole experience feels freeing.
Despite it's cheaper price, Extreme Q is one of the best desktop vaporizers for controlling almost every aspect of your vaping. There are multiple fan settings along with precision temperature control. You can play with different temperature and fan speed combinations, which you can’t say about every desktop vape, much less one that's under $170.
(Remotely control your vape sessions.)
Arizer also equipped this powerhouse tabletop vaporizer with dual functionality when it comes to inhaling. You can choose between balloon bag or whip attachment. Balloon bags are more portable, and let the vapor cool off more, while the silicone whip tube delivers a straight blast of fresh vapor.
The Extreme Q boasts impressive vapor quality thanks to its all-glass chamber. They tried to use glass wherever they could, and the flavor and potency truly benefits from it. A ceramic heating element also delivers purer clouds. Convection heating activates all the key compounds you're looking for, leaving little to want from each cloud.
The Extreme Q offers the functionality you’d expect from higher end desktop vaporizers but at a reasonable price. It currently has 4.86 stars out of 5 from over 130 of our customers who reviewed it, which says something about its quality. A lifetime warranty seals the deal.
Arizer V-Tower Vaporizer - $119.99
A wallet-friendly option with surprisingly smooth vapor.
- LCD Screen
- Precise Temperature Control
- Triple Heat Sensors
- Ceramic Heat Element
- Mini Whip w/Glass Elbow Adapter
- Lifetime Warranty
- 2 Minute Heat Up
- Midnight Chrome Finish
The V-Tower is the more affordable little brother to the Extreme Q. It doesn't have multiple fan modes, a remote control or balloon bags, but it does the basics well, making it one of the best desktop vaporizers at around $100.
The vapor quality is surprisingly good for a cheap tabletop vape. That's thanks to the vapor path. Arizer made sure to include their signature vertical glass-on-glass chamber, coupled with a ceramic heating element that delivers pure vapor.
The V-Tower is a convection unit, meaning it blasts herb with hot air, covering every bit of surface area. More compounds will be activated for better flavor, aroma, and effects all around.
V-Tower has impressive build quality with a stainless steel housing. The internal semiconductors are well-built, as are the glass and ceramic components, if vapor quality is anything to go by.
(Adjust temperature, session length, audio, and more.)
The defect rates of this Canadian-made device are lower than 3%, an impressive distinction in comparison with some of the vapes that come out of China.
Don't let the affordable price tag scare you off. This isn't a cheap piece of junk. It's about the best desktop vaporizer in its price range.
You can choose a precise temperature between 122F and 500F, one of the widest ranges of all desktop vaporizers. You can enjoy smaller, flavor-rich hits, larger clouds, or anything in-between.
Triple heat sensors guarantee that the temperature on the display correctly reflects the temperature of the heating element.
In a nutshell, the Arizer V-Tower is a low-cost option that behaves more or less like a more expensive unit. Not the best desktop vaporizer of all time, but certainly one of the few you can call affordable and reliable.
Easy Vape Digital - $79.99
Low-cost but reliable.
- Hands Free Vaping
- Digital Display
- Precision Temperature
- Control Knob
- Easy Operation
- Glass Wand
- Silicone Whip Tubing
- 5 Year Warranty
This isn't the best desktop vaporizer to ever grace our tabletop, but it's one of the best within its incredibly wallet-friendly price range, so we thought we'd include it for those on a budget.
You're not going to find a better desktop unit under $100. At the same time, if you have a little more to spend, go with something more superior like the Arizer V-Tower.
You can dial in a precise temperature using the control knob. The temperature will display on the screen, but don't be surprised if sometimes the temperature is a little off. If that's something that would bother you, then again, you might want to cough up some more cash for the V-Tower or Extreme Q.
Once you've chosen your temp, a glass wand connects to the heating element and draws are taken through the included whip tubing. The vapor quality is not bad for a low-cost desktop vaporizer. You can get the best vapor at around 330F. And we recommend grinding your herb finely and packing firmly.
Easy Vape Digital is a good starter device. It's also the go-to choice for those who want something under $100. A 5-year warranty protects the heating element and electronics, which adds to the cost-effectiveness.
